Grand Vin

Our vision is nothing
less than supreme.

A site above the rest.

Jason Dumont sources its fruit from the soaring heights of Pritchard Hill, Napa Valley’s legendary sub-region in the mountains east of Oakville. Here, the Houyi Vineyard sits above the fog line, almost 1300 feet above sea level, surveying the valley below.

The site’s generous morning sunshine and cold night air fuel an exquisite balance of richness, energy and finesse. But the rocky soils make farming difficult, pushing vines to root deep and concentrate their essence. From this struggle, splendor.

Extreme conditions push vines to their limit, unlocking the purest expression of volcanic power.

The red volcanic soils of Houyi Vineyard are rich with iron and studded with massive boulders. While thin, rocky soils allow superb drainage, they also challenge vines to find their footing and thrive. Water is sparse. Sunshine, intense. For vines on top of the world, stress is inescapable.

Only expert vineyard management saves the plants from ruin. David Abreu’s team masterfully supports the vines through their struggle, monitoring every aspect of development from budbreak through harvest.

The grapes that make it to maturity are intensely focused, thick-skinned, and profound – the only grapes capable of producing a Grand Vin. These small, dense berries create a wine of unmatched concentration, purity, power, and longevity.
